BOOKSTER DONEGAL TWEED MACKINAW JACKET
The Mackinaw jacket traces its roots to coats made by an early trader in the USA in 1811. 40 woolen Great Coats were produced at the request of the British Army. So whilst this a classic practical American design to this day, it came about due to British needs! It transpired that the long skirts of the greatcoat were unsuitable for deep snow, and once these were removed, the Mackinaw jacket was born
It also became known as a ‘Jeep Jacket / Coat’ due to its use by drivers of those vehicles in the 2nd World War. We have remained loyal to the original pattern.
Our tribute to this historic design uses finest pure wool Donegal Tweed cloth by W. Bill, rather than of the traditional Blanket cloth, Pure Alpaca fur fabric lining and collar have been added for extra warmth and comfort. It retains all of its practicality but is in a league of its own in terms of style and quality.
We believe it is the best Mackinaw Jacket available anywhere.
