Bamboo - a sustainable fibre of the modern age

Bamboo - a sustainable fibre of the modern age

Posted by Bookster on 6th May 2026

Why is Bamboo so sustainable?  Simply, it grows at an incredible rate, as quickly as 3ft per day and that's without fetilizer. We won’t go into the complex pros and cons of the production of this cloth, and its impact on the environment. There are different methods of producing fabric, but It is widely considered a highly sustainable and ecological positive.

Most of us have tried bamboo garments, commonly underwear, and many people will wear nothing else. Bamboo fabric use goes well beyond the humble sock, and we are pleased to introduce to you Huddersfield Fine Worsted’s Bamboo III summer jacketing range.  Made from 100% bamboo plant cellulose, it is; wrinkle resistant, moisture wicking, odour resistant, antimicrobial, biodegradable, and exceptionally breathable.  This outstanding range is produced in Italy and recommended for jackets or waistcoats only, so not suitable for making into trousers.  You will need some cotton or linen trousers or shorts to compliment your choice from this wonderful array of colours and patterns.  Whether it be a vivid check or a classic navy blazer, you will be sure to enjoy wearing this modern age phenomenon. We are currently adding some selected bamboo cloths to the site, but you can view the full range here HFW Bamboo III Jacketing
