It’s Autumn, the most colourful time of the year. Let’s think about colour...
Wearing colour can be a daunting concept especially for men who often find themselves drawn to their comfort zone of blue, grey or black. Putting personal preferences to one side, the right colour has the power to give your look an instant shot of radiance. Figuring out what colour best flatters starts with your skin tone, which can be grouped into three categories: cool, warm, and neutral. Many people already understand which one of those categories they fall into but see below if you are in doubt. There is no definitive test or hard-and-fast rules—which is fine, because this should all be treated as a guideline anyway. You shouldn't have to slavishly stick to warm colours if you're warm or cool colours if you're cool. The goal is to enhance your natural colouring, but if you love a colour that isn't 'flattering, 'wear it as an accessory (pocket square, socks) and if wearing tweed you have the flexibility of choosing a check which would not usually suit you over a background colour that does. When it comes to trousers, which are far away from your face, anything goes! Keep reading to find which grouping you belong to, which colours you should gravitate toward, and which you should avoid. These are suggestions that aren't written in stone.

COOL Your hair colour: It can range from very dark (blue black or very dark brown) to light blonde or grey. Your skin tone: Has a bluish undertone. It can also range from very fair to very dark. Your best colours in the cool colour family: Bright blue, royal blue, emerald, Lovat Green, purples. Your best colours in the warm colour family: Pink, ruby, bright rose, moss green. Your neutrals: Gray, navy, pristine white. Colours that are difficult for you: Olive, Oranges and yellows.
NEUTRAL Your hair colour: Is a combination of colours—blonde with ashy streaks or brown with warmer tones. Your skin tone: Hard to determine—you can't tell if you're warm or cool. Your best colours: Neutral colours that fall in the middle of the colour spectrum. Look for rich red/browns light and dark, soft blues and greens. Colours that are difficult for you: Anything too bright or vibrant, reds and yellows in particular. Your neutrals: Taupes, greys, off-whites.

WARM Your hair colour: Ranges from dark brown to dark blonde hair. Your skin tone: Has a yellowish (golden) undertone. Olive complexions also fall in the warm category. Your best colours in the warm colour family: Earthy Greens, Oranges, golden yellow, amber, and rust and muted reds. Your best colours in the cool colour family: Warmer greens and blues, like olive, deeper turquoise, green moss, fern, red-purples. Your neutrals: Taupe, chocolate, creamy whites. Colours that are difficult for you: pastel shades, lilac, light blue, grey, cool greens, bright reds.
EYES Different eye colours can fit in with any of the above. You may have warm colouring but have vivid blue eyes. Most likely if you have warm colouring, your eyes will be brown or green. If cool, blue or grey. Neutrals are usually Hazel. Different colours can highlight your eyes. Matching clothes to your eye colour really works, a slightly brighter green than your green eye colour will make your eyes look brighter too.
Tweeds and the ever-increasing suiting colours available give you the opportunity to work with colours to best enhance your skin tones, but also to make a statement and liven up the world a little more.
